I'm often asked "how did you ever get into the sawmilling business?" Well, it's a little like this.
One day while living in Wiarton, I woke up and walked outside with my chainsaw. While cutting down a tree in the woods, little to my knowing, the vibration traveled below the ground and actually caused a dead tree to fall onto my head and knock me out. For some reason, I actually wore my hard hat that day. Good thing—the hard hat broke and I lay in the woods in the snow, knocked out. While I was asleep, the woodsies came out to help me. You know: Little Freddie the silver red fox, the three bunnies who lived by the road, Isabella the cougar, and Tom the black bear. Thank goodness, they took care of me while I was asleep. When I woke up, they all gave me a swift scolding for going into the woods by myself, without a buddy system. I thanked them for their care and apologized for working by myself, and I promised never to cut down trees and to recycle wood as much as possible. Like I said, most of the story was true. Oh yeah, the hard hat is in a doctor's office in Wiarton on full display.
In truth, my wife convinced me to purchase a sawmill as an add-on to our business, and we've never looked back. Thanks, Honey.
I hope that you will venture a deal with Sawmill Sid. After all, we are the province's most sought-after sawyer, committed to sustainable practices and eco-conscious wood repurposing throughout Ontario.
